If you are looking to share your life with a Neapolitan Mastiff then may be you would concider and extra special home for one from welfare, they have some lovely dogs currently looking for homes through no fault of there own and would help you more than you think and do not judge you with the added bonus of matching the rite Neapolitan to you and your life style.

I recomend you looking at breed clubs of any breed you own as the people who are there know there breed more than any book you may want to get

You should never own a Neapolitan Mastiff as a result of seeing on a certain kids film and never get from anyone stating they are guard dogs, these dogs will look after you as with any member of your family but it would be a sad unhappy dog who does nothing but sit with a chain barking at people and certainly not a good example of the breed.

They should feel  at one with there home and family and only then will you see the true beauty of this regal breed.

Clyde - mungo -  Mr police man- Blondzpride mightymate

Our wee man came to join us in December 2004 and has been nothing but fun since the day he got here.

I am not quite sure what originally made us want a Neapolitan but i'm glad we did and cannot see us here without one, he is a true example of the breed and definitely not what a lot of people would imagine.
Too many of these breed's are seen as nasty or aggressive dogs but i think its true to say that when you treat a dog of this size right you get a calm stable dog who knows he does not need to be aggressive and knows exactly what their job is and that is of course to eat us out of house and home and drool all over our furniture, a dog as large as this should know its size is enough to deter any unwanted visitors and followed by confidence then there should never be an aggression problem, my Clyde often just drools on people if he is unsure of them (and if he is sure) so anyone wanting to cause a problem would need their heads examined  and to this day he has never worried anyone.
Clyde is possiblly the happiest dog i have ever owned and is so stable who just adores visitors to the front of our home but i would not recommend attempting to get round the back to his girls as i have always taught him that this is his space and in return i get great respect for mine.
My girls do treat Clyde like a bit of a scape goat esspecialy on days they do food raids as he is often the only one daft enough to stay were the raid took place while they all crul up n sleep off there feast but as much as he takes the wrap for there adventures they do him a good turn back in keeping him clean and well groomed.

If you were ever thinking of owning a Rhodesian or a Neapolitan Mastiff then you need to be able to expect  advice from people who own them and not from the general dog owners as these breeds are very close to the original breed which  means they do like to do what the breed is there for or as close as they can get, there is no reason these breeds would not suit most life styles  but its the added bits no one thinks about that cause the problem, A Neapolitan mastiff can live in a small flat and have regular walks but its not going to last long if it is up and down stairs to get out and the smell in your home would not be too good as this breed does tend to stink a bit before bath times as well as the fact that you would have to have little or no furniture
My personally idea of a good home is a home were the dog can have its own space to stink up and garden to chill out in and also one were the dog can have a bath space as you are  not  going
to be able to lift the dog in to your own tub unless you can rig up a pulley system. and as little steps as possible.
Other down side to owning one in an apartment would be that they do tend to get very hot so if they did not have a yard to go to or a large enough home to find a cooler room it would not be very nice for either the dog or owner and it could result in some horrid skin problems, living above others is also a problem as they snore and im sure that is not what the neighbours want to listen to all day.
I do not believe there is the perfect home i am more for believing in the perfect owner but some simple things help to make it a life long friendship rather than a life long regret.
