Diesel
This Boy came to us through chance and good luck , I had not been looking for another RRIn fact I had decided I definitely had enough to do.
I cannot go in to exactly how we got him, all i will say is he is an example of how easy it is for out dog to end up in the wrong hands.
His life was going to be as a stud dog to any female of any breed so long as the owner had the cash to pay. He obviously had been a loved pet at some time and was reasonably well socialised, he did have all the hallmarks of a dog who had been untrained correctly as a pup and I am guessing this led to him becoming a huge boisterous puppy.
His bad habits i think stemmed from games like allowing him to play rough at his will and allowing him to play those games with who he wanted.
We first noticed this on day 2, he came charging across the room and grabbed hold of my arm, wanting me to play but this was not good timing as i had my baby in my arms at the time.
There was not one nasty bone in him but the playful side with no tough rules,it was a lot to handle, we started by having play times in a certain area and making it clear that at the end of every game WE WON? We worked on the game becoming less of a face off and that our bodies were not allowed to be used as a play thing, Toys only.
We moved the training on to him being a bit calmer around us in the living room and also to ignore the kids more when they were running around.
We have had him 3 months now and I can honestly say he is a darling.
At the same time We planed to get him ready for re homing we were also looking in to a stud dog for our Cala, the dog we had been looking at turned out to be his granddad and with some careful thought and advice from experienced breeders we decided to use Diesel, this was not just because he was here at all but a good twist of fate. He was exactly what i was looking for in a prospective male, his temperament was fantastic, after all how many 18 month males get pushed around then end up in a house with kids and other dogs and settle like they had always been there. The things i wanted to come strong in my line were things they both had in the correct ways and the things i wanted to improve were stronger in him.
A lot of second thinking went in to things before we actually mated them just as a lot of thinking went in before we decided to breed one of the girls, by this time we knew we would not part with him and that he was just a big spoilt lump with the biggest heart.
We also of course had to look at his pedigree, we found that overall it was good and had some of the older RR lines that i had first been following. His family on his dads side is of course well known as his aunt has taken crufts 2 years in a row and also top cc bitch, his uncles had a similar history, his grandfather well what can anyone say about Him that does not speak for its self.
We can trace most of his mothers side from grandparents back and they all seem to be the types we liked as well as showing good breeding and temperament which of course is paramount for us.
Our wee lad has changed a lot but his overall character remains the same, one big puppy who just wants to say hi to everyone he meets. There is no such thing as a game he does not like, he even retrieves for us which i must say i have not seen many RR s do.
We have had a lot of interest in him and some good comments so we have desided that if when he finishes his training he is up for more than we will try showing him properly, for now we are testing him in one small local show as he is at an age were he may well be 2 late to start off.
